While there are a variety of volunteer opportunities available, the most pressing need is for adults willing to be trained as group facilitators. These facilitators will run peer support groups for children and teens aged 3-18, and young adults aged 18-30, who are coping with loss due to the death of a parent, brother, sister, or other important person in their lives. Imagine's grief support program also provides separate groups for the parents and guardians of the children served. Imagine just led a session at our March Regional Saturday and it was an incredible look into how grief impacts the lives of our students. The TFA-NJ CRP Fellowship is for corps members, alumni, and non-TFA teachers who want to grow in their application of culturally relevant pedagogy and teaching for social justice, and be part of a tight group of like-minded teachers. We’ll meet two Monday evenings per month for 2 hour sessions where dinner will be provided, and we will have beginning and end of year mini-retreats over a weekend. The fellowship will be hosted by staff and alumni in the region. Last year, 100% of fellows surveyed said they found the experience enjoyable and beneficial, and would recommend it to fellow CMs and alumni. October 2018

Tour goers will get a bird’s eye view of what it’s like to live in the Ironbound or the South Ward, right next to the largest port on the East Coast. Public Health professionals from Rutgers University and Mt. Sinai will speak to the health effects of the chemicals in air emissions on people, especially children. A full day of activities for the entire family honoring a great American. @ 1pm, the Film Viewing of " I Shall Not Be Silent" tells the story of civil rights activist and Rabbi Joachim Prinz, a refugee from Nazi Germany who came to the United States in 1937 and immediately identified with African-Americans experiencing the same kinds of oppression he had known as a Jew in Hitler's Germany. Prinz became a civil rights activist, working with Martin Luther King, Jr., Bayard Rustin and A. Phillip Randolph among others. Prinz spoke at the 1963 March on Washington just prior to Martin Luther King, Jr, with a speech entitled, The Problem is Silence.
